ABOUT NIKKI
Dutch soprano Nikki Treurniet has established herself as a sensitive and versatile soloist, performing opera, orchestral repertoire and chamber music on international stages.
As a light lyric soprano with a lusciously warm sound, Nikki feels at home in repertoire ranging from the baroque to newly commissioned works of the present day. She is gaining recognition for her particularly sensitive interpretations of Mozart and is particularly drawn to the music of the late-romantic French impressionists.
This season Nikki is a guest at the Komische Oper Berlin to sing Joanna in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd and Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. Concert highlights of this season include Mozart’s requiem with Rundfunkchor Berlin conducted by Gijs Leenaars, Bach’s Matthäus Passion with the Concertgebouw Chamberorchestra and Beethoven’s Egmont with the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague conducted by Richard Egarr. She will sing Beethoven’s theatrical piece again at the Zaterdagmatinee with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in a Dutch translation by Wim T. Schippers.
For four seasons (2019-2023) Nikki was a member of the ensemble at Staatsoper Hannover extending her operatic repertoire roles to include Blanche (Dialogues des Carmélites), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Despina (Così fan tutte), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Musica/Euridice (L’Orfeo), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Lenio (The Greek passion), Iseut la Blonde (Frank Martin’s Le vin herbé), Emmy (Marschner’s Der Vampyr) and working with directors Lydia Steier, Theu Boermans, Wolfgang Nägele, Ersan Mondtag and Barbora Horáková.
Nikki made her debut at the Dutch National Opera singing the role of Anima Ingrate in Il ballo delle Ingrate as part of the Monteverdi Madrigals staged by Pierre Audi in collaboration with Les Talents Lyriques and Christoph Rousset and returned to sing the contemporary opera The Shell Trial in 2024. With the Nederlandse Reisopera she sang Mrs. Nordstrom in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music on a tour throughout the Netherlands. After making her debut with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël conducted by Ed Spanjaard, she returned to the Zaterdagmatinee in Het Concertgebouw to sing Ginevra Scotti in Schreker’s Die Gezeichneten, the role of Sorge in Schumann’s Szenen aus Goethes Faust and an oratorio concert of Bach and Verhulst. Her debut on the opera stage was with the Dutch National Opera Academy singing Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. At the academy she also performed the title role in Massenet’s Cendrillon with the Residentie Orchestra and Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel with the Netherlands Youth Orchestra conducted by Antony Hermus.
Alongside her operatic work Nikki regularly performs concert repertoire including Bach’s Matthäus-Passion, Johannes-Passion, Weihnachtsoratorium and several cantatas, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Händel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4.
Nikki is strongly committed to the performance of song and chamber music and has given recitals in various halls across The Netherlands together with pianists Andrea Vasi and Daan Boertien. In 2022 and 2023 she appeared in recital at The International Lied Festival Zeist and at the Delft Chambermusic Festival.
